Market Overview

Bangladesh is rapidly expanding its urban and national rail infrastructure. The Dhaka Metro Rail (MRT Line 6) opened its first section in 2022 and is now fully operational, with multiple additional MRT lines under construction or planning in the capital. The projects are largely financed by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The Karnaphuli Tunnel in Chittagong creates new rail and road connectivity. Bangladesh Railway is expanding its network and procuring new rolling stock under a modernisation programme. Cross-border rail links with India are being rehabilitated and expanded to boost regional trade. The country's rapid economic growth is driving demand for improved urban and inter-city rail capacity.
