Market Overview
Bosnia and Herzegovina operates a rail network divided between two entities — the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ZFBiH) and Republika Srpska (ŽRS) — reflecting the country's complex post-war political structure. The network connects Sarajevo to the Adriatic coast, to Croatia, Serbia, and Hungary. Rail has significant historical importance, with the Sarajevo–Mostar line passing through spectacular scenery. The network requires extensive rehabilitation, and EU funding under the Western Balkans Investment Framework supports upgrades on pan-European Corridor Vc, the main north-south artery. Sarajevo is studying urban rail options for the capital. Bosnia's EU integration process is gradually aligning its rail sector with European standards. Chinese companies have been involved in infrastructure discussions alongside European partners.
