Market Overview
Brazil has extensive freight rail operations, with private concessionaires hauling iron ore, agricultural products, and industrial goods across major corridors. Urban rail is growing, with the São Paulo Metro expanding through new lines and extensions funded by state government and multilateral banks. The Rio de Janeiro SuperVia suburban rail network is undergoing modernisation. The Tren de Integración del Sur (TILS), a planned high-speed rail link, and other intercity rail projects are under study. Brazil's National Logistics Plan identifies rail as key for reducing road freight costs. The country's large geography and underinvestment in rail represent a significant long-term opportunity. Chinese, European, and American rail suppliers have active interests in the Brazilian market.
