Market Overview
Cameroon's rail network is operated by Camrail, a private concession. The main line connects Douala on the Atlantic coast to Ngaoundéré in the north, with a branch to Kumba. The network serves both freight and passengers and is a critical transport artery in a country with limited road infrastructure in many regions. Cameroon is studying extensions and new lines, including connections to Chad and the Central African Republic. Douala, the country's main port, is a key gateway for landlocked neighbours including Chad, the CAR, and parts of the DRC. Rail freight for agricultural products, fuel, and general cargo is the primary revenue source for Camrail. The government has outlined ambitious plans for network expansion under Chinese and multilateral financing.
