Market Overview
The Central African Republic has no operational rail network. The country is one of the most transport-disadvantaged in Africa, relying on a limited road network and river transport on the Ubangi and Sangha rivers. Rail connectivity to neighbouring countries — Cameroon, DRC, Sudan, Chad — would require large-scale regional investment. The country's mineral wealth, including diamonds, gold, and uranium, creates latent freight demand that rail could serve if political stability and security conditions improve. The Central African Republic has been a focus of Chinese, Russian, and Western security and development engagement, with infrastructure investment linked to resource access agreements. Long-term rail development would require substantial external financing and regional coordination.
