Chad has no operational national rail network. The landlocked country in central Africa relies on road transport and occasional river transport. A Trans-Saharan Railway project connecting Chad to both Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts has been discussed in regional forums for decades but has not advanced to construction. Chad's oil fields in the Doba Basin are connected to the Cameroonian port of Kribi by an oil pipeline, but no rail infrastructure supports this corridor. Chinese companies have been among the most active investors in Chad's oil sector and have expressed interest in infrastructure development. Any rail development in Chad would require substantial external financing and would likely focus on freight corridors connecting oil and mineral deposits to export routes.
