Market Overview
Denmark is implementing a significant rail investment programme, including new metro lines in Copenhagen and upgrades to the national network. The Copenhagen Metro opened its City Ring (Cityringen) in 2019, and Line 4 to Sydhavn is operational. A Lynetteholm Metro extension is planned. Denmark is also constructing the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link with Germany, which will include a rail tunnel under the Baltic Sea — one of the largest infrastructure projects in Nordic history. DSB (Danske Statsbaner) is renewing its intercity rolling stock fleet. Denmark's flat terrain and compact geography make rail an efficient mode for both commuter and intercity travel. The country is a leader in green transport and aims for a fossil-free rail system. Scandinavia's integrated rail market gives Denmark connections to Sweden, Norway, and Germany.
