Market Overview

Estonia is part of the transformative Rail Baltica project — a new standard gauge high-speed rail line connecting Tallinn to Warsaw via Riga and Vilnius. Rail Baltica is the largest infrastructure project in the Baltic states' history and will integrate the region with the European rail network for the first time, replacing the Soviet-era broad-gauge lines. Tallinn's section of Rail Baltica, including a new underground central station, is under development. Estonia's existing rail network, operated by Elron for passengers and Eesti Raudtee for infrastructure, uses broad gauge and connects Tallinn to Tartu, Narva, and Pärnu. The transition to standard gauge will be a major undertaking. Tallinn's tram network is being modernised. EU funding covers the majority of Rail Baltica's costs, reflecting its pan-European strategic importance.
