Market Overview
Georgia's Georgian Railway is a critical transit corridor for the Middle Corridor (Trans-Caspian International Transport Route) connecting China and Central Asia to Europe via Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey — bypassing Russia. The Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) railway, which opened in 2017, connects Georgia to Turkey and onward to European markets. The Poti and Batumi ports on the Black Sea are the western terminals of this corridor. Georgia is investing in rail capacity upgrades and new rolling stock. Tbilisi's metro system is being modernised and extended. Georgia's growing importance as a transit hub — particularly since Western sanctions on Russia redirected freight flows — makes rail investment a national economic priority. Chinese, European, and Gulf investors are all engaged in Georgia's infrastructure development.
