Market Overview
Honduras has no operational national passenger rail network. A banana plantation narrow-gauge railway system existed historically but is no longer in service. San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa have been studied for Bus Rapid Transit systems to address urban congestion. Honduras's challenging topography, limited fiscal capacity, and governance challenges make large-scale rail investment difficult. Regional connectivity within Central America is discussed in long-term transport plans. Multilateral development banks have supported road and port infrastructure in Honduras. Any future urban rail development would likely focus on the San Pedro Sula industrial corridor or the capital Tegucigalpa and would require significant international financing support.
