Market Overview
Iran operates one of the Middle East's most extensive national rail networks, with Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (RAI) managing thousands of kilometres of track connecting major cities. Tehran Metro is one of the region's largest urban rail systems, with multiple lines serving the capital and ongoing extensions. Isfahan, Mashhad, Tabriz, Shiraz, and other major cities operate or are developing metro systems. Iran has ambitious plans for high-speed rail between Tehran, Isfahan, and Mashhad. The country is also a critical rail transit corridor between Central Asia, the Caucasus, and the Persian Gulf, with the North-South Transport Corridor and the Trans-Caspian route passing through its territory. International sanctions have restricted Iran's access to Western rail technology, pushing the country toward Chinese and domestic suppliers for rolling stock and signalling systems.
