Market Overview
Ireland's rail network is operated by Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail), with lines connecting Dublin to Cork, Galway, Limerick, and Belfast. Dublin's DART suburban electric rail service and the Luas tram network are the backbone of the capital's public transport. A major expansion programme — the DART+ project — is electrifying and expanding suburban rail across the Greater Dublin Area. MetroLink, a new north-south metro line through central Dublin, is in the planning and procurement stage and is Ireland's most significant urban rail investment. Ireland's rapid economic growth and population increase are driving demand for improved public transport. EU funding and domestic capital investment support the rail programme. Cross-border rail services between Dublin and Belfast are maintained and have symbolic importance for the island's connectivity.
