Market Overview

Israel Railways operates an increasingly comprehensive national network, with major investments modernising and expanding the system. The Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area is receiving a new Light Rail Transit (LRT) network with multiple lines under construction, the first of which opened in 2023. The Jerusalem Light Rail Red Line is being extended. A planned high-speed rail link between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem via a new tunnel route is under development. Israel is also extending the national rail network toward Eilat on the Red Sea. The country's technology sector has produced globally significant rail innovations in communications, cybersecurity, and automation. Israel's rail investments are supported by government commitment to shifting passengers from cars to public transport, with significant EU-equivalent state financing.
