Market Overview
Moldova's Calea Ferată din Moldova (CFM) operates the national rail network, which connects Chișinău to Romania, Ukraine, and Russia. The network is broad gauge on the eastern section and standard gauge approaching the Romanian border, reflecting Moldova's position at the junction of European and post-Soviet rail systems. Moldova is a candidate EU member state and is aligning its rail sector with European standards. A rail connection to Romania at Ungheni has been modernised, and further integration with the European network is planned. The Transnistria region, which controls key sections of the eastern rail corridor, complicates network operations. Moldova's strategic interest in European integration makes rail connectivity with Romania and the EU a national priority. EU and Romanian government support is financing rail modernisation.
