Market Overview

Poland has one of Central Europe's most active rail investment programmes, largely funded through EU cohesion and structural funds. PKP PLK, the national infrastructure manager, is implementing a comprehensive modernisation of the rail network, including track upgrades, electrification, and ETCS signalling. New rolling stock is being procured for both intercity and regional services. The Central Communication Port (CPK) megaproject envisions a new high-speed rail network radiating from a new airport hub near Warsaw, with construction planned through the 2030s. Poland's strategic location as a transit corridor between Western Europe and Ukraine/Eastern Europe makes rail freight capacity a national priority. Chinese rail companies have been active in Poland, though procurement rules increasingly favour European suppliers.
