Market Overview
Qatar completed a landmark urban rail investment ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, delivering the Doha Metro — a fully automated, driverless metro network with three lines covering the capital. The Red, Green, and Gold lines were built to world-class standards with rolling stock supplied by a Hitachi-Bombardier consortium. The Lusail Light Rail Transit system serves the purpose-built Lusail city north of Doha. Qatar Rail continues to operate and expand these networks, with potential extensions under study. Qatar is also studying rail connections to Saudi Arabia as part of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Railway project, which aims to link all six GCC member states by rail. The country's sovereign wealth resources enable long-term infrastructure investment.
