Market Overview

Russia operates one of the world's largest rail networks, with Russian Railways (RZD) managing thousands of kilometres of track connecting the vast country from the Baltic to the Pacific. The Trans-Siberian Railway remains the world's longest railway line. Russia has invested in high-speed rail, with the Sapsan service operating between Moscow and St Petersburg and Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod. The Moscow Metro is one of the world's busiest, with ongoing expansion including the Moscow Central Circle and new lines. Russia is developing high-speed rail on additional corridors and expanding metro systems in multiple cities. Western sanctions following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine have forced Russia to turn to Chinese suppliers for rolling stock components and technology. RZD's international activities include rail projects in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
