Market Overview

Senegal delivered a landmark rail project in 2019 with the opening of the Dakar Regional Express Train (TER), a modern commuter rail line connecting Dakar city centre to the new Blaise Diagne International Airport. The project was built by a consortium involving Alstom and financed by French development agencies. Dakar also operates a heritage narrow-gauge rail line to Bamako, Mali, though operations are limited. Senegal's government has outlined plans for further urban and inter-city rail development. The country's economic growth and its position as a West African hub make it an increasingly relevant rail market. French engineering companies and financing channels have been the dominant partners in Senegalese rail projects.
