Market Overview

Slovenia's SŽ-Infrastruktura manages the national rail network, with SŽ-Potniški promet operating passenger services. The country is investing heavily in the modernisation of the main rail corridor — the Divača–Koper line, which connects the Port of Koper to the European hinterland. A new second track on this corridor is under construction with EU funding, as the single-track line has been a bottleneck for freight. The Port of Koper is one of the fastest-growing on the Adriatic and a key gateway for Central European imports and exports, making rail capacity critical. Ljubljana is studying a suburban rail system. Slovenia's position between Italy, Austria, Croatia, and Hungary makes it a key transit country on pan-European freight corridors. The country has been an EU member since 2004, aligning rail standards with European requirements.
