Market Overview

Syria's national rail network, operated by the Chemins de Fer Syriens (CFS), has been severely damaged by the civil war that began in 2011. Lines connecting Damascus to Aleppo, Latakia, Deir ez-Zor, and the Iraqi and Jordanian borders are partially or fully inoperable. Before the conflict, Syria was a key rail transit corridor between Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq. Post-conflict reconstruction presents a significant rail rehabilitation opportunity, with the Damascus–Aleppo main line and the Hejaz Railway branch being priority routes. Russia, Iran, and China have all signalled interest in Syria's post-war reconstruction, including transport infrastructure. The scale of required investment and the political complexity of reconstruction financing make the timeline for rail revival uncertain.
