Market Overview

Tanzania is building one of Africa's most ambitious Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) networks. The central corridor SGR aims to connect Dar es Salaam to Mwanza on Lake Victoria, with onward links toward Rwanda, Burundi, and the DRC planned. Multiple lots of the Tanzanian SGR are under construction or procurement, with Chinese contractors playing a major role. The Dar es Salaam suburban rail network is also being rehabilitated. Tanzania's SGR is partly financed by domestic resources and is expected to transform freight logistics across the East and Central African region. The country's strategic position as a gateway to landlocked neighbours makes rail infrastructure a national and regional priority.
