Market Overview
Uzbekistan is modernising its rail network as a key pillar of its economic reform programme. Uzbekistan Railways (UTY) operates the national network, including a high-speed service between Tashkent and Samarkand using Talgo rolling stock. New high-speed connections to Bukhara and Khiva are operational, supporting the country's tourism and economic development goals. Tashkent Metro, one of the oldest in Central Asia, is being extended. The country's position on historical Silk Road trade routes makes rail a strategic priority for regional connectivity. Uzbekistan is investing in rail links with Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, and China. Chinese, Spanish (Talgo), and Russian rolling stock companies are active in the Uzbek market.
