Market Overview
Vatican City has a short freight rail spur connecting to the Italian rail network at Rome's San Pietro station. The 300-metre track is used occasionally for the delivery of goods and is not open to passenger service. Vatican City is the world's smallest internationally recognised state and has no need for a passenger rail system of its own, relying on Rome's extensive public transport network — including buses, trams, and metro — for access. The Vatican railway track was inaugurated by Pope Pius XI in 1934 as part of the Lateran Treaty arrangements with Italy.
