BNSF Railway customers invested more than USD 5.3bn (EUR 4.9bn) in 117 rail-served projects across the United States in 2025, the highest annual total in six years. Among the larger schemes, U.S. Steel invested approximately USD 27m (EUR 25m) in rail infrastructure at its Big River Steel Works facility in northeast Arkansas. The site, which now includes nearly 40 miles (64 km) of track, supports inbound raw materials and outbound finished steel movements. With a second facility commissioned, annual production capacity has increased to nearly six million tonnes. © US Steel South Dakota Soybean Processors completed its USD 500m (EUR 460m) High Plains Processing plant near Mitchell, South Dakota. The rail-served facility can process around 35 million bushels of soybeans per year and has direct access to the BNSF main line. The project is expected to support around 85 full-time jobs, with annual payroll estimated at USD 5.5m (EUR 5.1m). © Genesee & Wyoming Separately, BNSF added a new Certified Site approximately 20 minutes north of Mobile, Alabama. It is the first location in the programme served by a BNSF Shortline Select partner, Genesee & Wyoming’s Alabama & Gulf Coast Railway (AGR). The site offers access to the Port of Mobile and nearby interstate highways. Under BNSF’s Certified Site programme, locations are pre-qualified for rail service and infrastructure readiness to reduce development timelines for new industrial projects.
