Colombia opened the call for bids for the construction of the Regiotram del Norte commuter train Regiotram del Norte, with the presentation of the preliminary bidding terms, a project that will seek to connect Bogotá with the municipalities of Sabana Centro.
The project is valued at around 11 trillion (tn) pesos (US$3.55 billion (bn)).
Comments on the draft bidding documents may be submitted until September 15, 2026.
The final bidding terms will be presented on October 15.
Bids will be received until April 15, 2027. The award is scheduled for June 16 of that year, and the contract will be signed one month later.
The project received technical assistance from the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

It will have 17 stations and 26 100% electric trains, which will be integrated with the district's public transport: the two lines of the Bogotá metro, the TransMilenio trunk lines and RegioTram de Occidente.
It is expected to benefit one million inhabitants and boost mobility and tourism in the savanna and in Bogotá.
The tender is posted on Colombia's public procurement portal, Secop II, under process number EFR-LP-001-2026.
