April 16 (SeeNews) - The Croatian government said on Thursday it will finance with European Union grants an 898.9 million euro ($1.06 billion) key project for the reconstruction and expansion of the 84 kilometre-long Dugo Selo – Novska railway line, part of pan-European transport Corridor X.

It is one of the largest ever investments in Croatia's railway infrastructure, prime minister Andrej Plekovic told a weekly cabinet meeting, as seen in a video published on the government’s website.
The project will be carried out by state-owned railway infrastructure operator HZ Infrastruktura.
Of the total value of the project, 609.97 million euro are grants from the EU’s tool 2021-2027 Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), and 288.96 are grants from the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). The project includes building a second track, upgrading stations and stops, modernising infrastructure, and improving safety.

The revamped railway line will allow train speed of up to 160 km/h on the section from Dugo Selo, near Zagreb, to Novska, in eastern Croatia, HZ Infrastruktura said earlier.
Transport Corridor X connects Salzburg to Thessaloniki via Ljubljana, Zagreb, Belgrade and Skopje.
