BRAZIL: The Bahia state government has selected a consortium of CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles and CRRC Brasil Equipamentos Ferroviários to supply 10 four-car metro trainsets for use in the city of Salvador.
The contract has a value of R$490.4m and is expected to be signed after the customary regulatory standstill period. CRRC’s bid beat rival Alstom’s R$614.4m offer.
The trainsets are to be used on metro lines 1 and 2 to increase capacity. They are also being deployed to support the extension of Line 1 by 1·1 km from Lapa to Campo Grande in the city centre. Start of construction on this short stub was authorised on May 29.
