DoTr completes pre-feasibility study for Mindanao Railway Project
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Monday revealed that the pre-feasibility study of the Phase 3 Mindanao Railway Project (MRP3) has been completed. During the Philippine Economic Briefing organized by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Planning and Development Office Director Crinezza Veil Mendoza said the DOTr is ready with a full feasibility study, which is a step towards modernizing public transportation and improving regional connectivity across Mindanao. "This would cover 54.8 kilometers that would connect CDO (Cagayan de Oro), the municipalities of Laguindingan and Villanueva, the seaports and the airport, and would make the movements of people more efficient," she said. Mendoza said the modern transportation plan is projected to serve an estimated 150,000 passengers and generate 200,000 jobs in its passenger and freight rail connections in Misamis Oriental. She also said the agency is integrating transit-oriented development locations, which are mixed-use areas near the transit stations that will promote a live-work and play environment. The transportation modernization system plan for MRP3 also includes the private-public partnership of the Laguindingan International Airport with Aboitiz InfraCapital. (PNA)
