First Ever Overhauled Vectron Delivered to Beacon Rail
Article Summary
Source-basedIn September, SŽ – VIT in Slovenia completed the first in‑house overhaul of a Siemens‑built Vectron locomotive, the unit 191‑023, and returned it to Beacon Rail. The Ljubljana Maintenance Section, responsible for electric locomotive maintenance, performed the entire overhaul without external assistance. This marks a significant milestone for the maintenance team and opens a new business opportunity for SŽ – VIT.
Beacon Rail has been a client since 2024, having previously received electric locomotive overhauls from SŽ – VIT for MRCE, which introduced the company to international Vectron maintenance. SŽ – VIT has a decade of experience in electric locomotive maintenance, beginning with F4 unit bogie overhauls in 2019 and expanding to Vectron locomotives and bogies. The company’s prior work on Siemens Taurus (Series 541) and I3 inspections on Vectron units provided a solid foundation for the current overhaul.
To meet the requirements for Vectron maintenance, the team completed hands‑on brake overhaul training supplied by Knorr and purchased a measuring arm for bogie measurements. Two additional Vectron overhauls are scheduled for the remainder of the year, with six more planned for 2027. The company also aims to broaden its service range for Vectron units, including wheel replacements.
SŽ – VIT’s expansion into Vectron overhauls demonstrates its growing capability in electric locomotive maintenance and reinforces its position as a key maintenance supplier for rolling stock leasing companies such as Railpool.
