MTR Corporation has warned of possible glitches, such as misalignment between train and platform doors and automatic speed changes, as a new signalling system on the Tsuen Wan line is set to begin operating on Sunday. The rail giant said the Tsuen Wan line would start using the new system from the first train on Sunday morning, while maintaining its normal schedule that day. “During the adjustment period after the new signalling system is put into service, some isolated incidents that do not affect train safety are expected,” it said on Saturday. 00:04 The video player is currently playing an ad. The operator cited examples such as train doors not aligning perfectly with platform screen doors when trains stop at stations, or automatic speed adjustments on certain sections of the line. “The MTR Corp will continue to closely monitor the operation of the new signalling system and make necessary adjustments to ensure smoother train operations,” it said. The company said it had prepared comprehensive contingency plans, including deploying additional train crew and engineering staff along the line to handle issues quickly and reduce the impact on services. Following the roll-out on the Tsuen Wan line, the rail operator expects to upgrade the remaining three urban lines – Island, Kwun Tong and Tseung Kwan O – at a rate of one per year, with the entire project scheduled for completion in 2029.
