Goyang City to Prioritize "Eunpyeong Line Extension" Over "Daegok-Siksa Line" Urban Rail Feasibility Study Planned in Preparation for Preliminary Review of Gajwa-Siksa and Daegok-Goyang City Hall-Siksa Lines Railway Policy Focuses on Wide-Area Netwo Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced that if the 'Goyang-Eunpyeong Line Ilsan Extension' is included in the '5th Metropolitan Area Wide-Area Transportation Implementation Plan,' the city will consider prioritizing the wide-area railway project 'Goyang-Eunpyeong Line Ilsan Extension' over the 'Daegok-Goyang City Hall-Siksa Line' project, which is included in the '2nd Gyeonggi-do Urban Rail Network Construction Plan.' Provided by Goyang Special City The city has proposed the inclusion of the new Goyang-Eunpyeong Line Ilsan Extension route in the 5th Metropolitan Area Wide-Area Transportation Implementation Plan, and the Metropolitan Transport Commission is currently in the final stages of reviewing the feasibility of projects proposed by local governments. The wide-area railway route 'Goyang-Eunpyeong Line Ilsan Extension' would extend the Goyang-Eunpyeong Line (Saejeol Station to Goyang City Hall) to the Siksa area, with a total extension of 2.04 km and a project budget of 236.1 billion KRW. If the wide-area railway connecting Siksa, Goyang City Hall, Saejeol, and southern Seoul is established, it is expected to reduce commuting times for citizens traveling to Seoul, significantly improve transportation welfare, and greatly enhance the city's competitiveness. Lee Donghwan, Mayor of Goyang, stated, "We are actively negotiating with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Metropolitan Transport Commission to realize the Goyang-Eunpyeong Line Ilsan Extension, which is a long-standing wish of Siksa and Pung-dong residents, and we will make every effort in the final stages to ensure its inclusion in the 5th Metropolitan Area Wide-Area Transportation Implementation Plan." In addition, the city plans to conduct a feasibility study for urban railways in preparation for the preliminary feasibility studies of the 'Gajwa-Siksa Line' and 'Daegok-Goyang City Hall-Siksa Line,' which are included in the 2nd Gyeonggi-do Urban Rail Network Construction Plan. The 'Gajwa-Siksa Line' is a route designed to realize a future self-sufficient city and resolve transportation blind spots, connecting Gajwa to Janghang District and Siksa District, with a total extension of 13.37 km and a project budget of 411.1 billion KRW. The 'Daegok-Goyang City Hall-Siksa Line,' included in the Changneung District wide-area transportation improvement plan, is a route connecting Daegok Station to Goyang City Hall and Siksa District, with a total extension of 6.25 km and a project budget of 235.3 billion KRW. On December 12 last year, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport officially announced the 2nd Gyeonggi-do Urban Rail Network Construction Plan. Gyeonggi Province plans to implement a total of 12 routes, with a combined extension of 104.48 km and a total project budget of 7.2725 trillion KRW. Meanwhile, the Goyang-Eunpyeong Line wide-area railway construction project will extend 15 km, include eight stations [including three transfer stations: Saejeol (Seobu Line, Line 6), Changneung (GTX-A), and Hwajeong (Line 3)], and require a total project budget of 1.7167 trillion KRW. Detailed design began in December last year, with construction scheduled to commence in 2027 and the opening targeted for 2031.
