Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) is set to reorganise matatu operations around Nairobi Central Station to pave the way for construction of the Nairobi Railway City Project, with designated drop-off points and operating lanes planned to minimise disruption to commuters.
KRC has stepped up stakeholder engagement, bringing together Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators working around the station to brief them on the planned changes and prepare them for the upcoming construction phase.
The meeting, led by Nairobi Railway City Project Manager Milly Kiziili, focused on the PSV Operations Adjustment Strategy, which will facilitate the handover of the site to the contractor following the completion of the contractor selection process.

Under the proposed plan, eight designated passenger drop-off areas and two lanes for matatu operations will be provided around the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) station area, while Green Park will serve as a holding area for parking.
The station will continue to support passenger pick-up and drop-off services during peak and off-peak hours, ensuring commuters can access public transport throughout the construction period.
The discussions also covered infrastructure improvements aimed at enhancing safety and efficiency during construction. These include the installation of floodlights, improved drainage, new road surfacing, enhanced pedestrian safety measures and clear lane markings.
