KUALA LUMPUR: A consortium which includes MMC Corp Bhd and Ancom Nylex Bhd has won the tender to build an autonomous rail transit system (ART) in Johor Baru.
Ancom Nylex, in a bursa filing today, said the consortium, which also comprises DOM Industries (M) Sdn Bhd and BTS Group Holdings Public Company Ltd, secured a letter of intent (LOI) from the government for a proposed public-private partnership rail project in Iskandar Malaysia.
Ancom Nylex said the LOI was issued by the Public Private Partnership Unit (Ukas) under the Prime Minister's Department on May 5.
The company said the government had granted approval in principle to the consortium to undertake the project.
No amount was disclosed but sources told Business Times that the consortium secured the contract for more than RM10 billion.
The system is intended to complement the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link, which is scheduled to begin operations by end-2026, to ease passenger movement within Johor Bahru.
Thailand-listed BTS Group, the developer and operator of Bangkok's mass transit system, will provide technical expertise for the project, while Nylex Ancom will act as the project promoter.
DOM Industries, which is also involved in the Kuching Urban Transportation System project, is 51 per cent-owned by Adil Sayeed Ghulam Mohammed and 49 per cent-owned by Noorfazliyani Mustafa Kamal.
Meanwhile, MMC through MMC Engineering will bring rail infrastructure experience from its involvement in the MRT Kajang Line.
