Morocco Launches Tender to Link Substations for High-Speed Rail Extension to Marrakech

Morocco’s national railway operator ONCF has launched an international tender to connect three electrical substations to a 225-kilovolt high-voltage network as part of preparations for the high-speed rail line extending from Kenitra to Marrakech.
The project, valued at about 104 million dirhams ($11 million), aims to secure the energy supply required for the future rail infrastructure. ONCF requires bidders to submit a guarantee of 1.56 million dirhams ($166,488 million), as part of the bidding process.
The tender focuses on connecting three strategic electrical substations to the national 225 kV grid. ONCF describes the work as a prerequisite to powering the high-speed rail infrastructure supporting the southern extension of Morocco’s rail network.
Several Turkish companies plan to participate in the project. The international scope of the tender reflects growing foreign interest in Morocco’s rail and infrastructure development programs.
ONCF set strict procedural rules for the bidding process. Companies must download tender documents exclusively through Morocco’s national public procurement portal.
Any amendments to the specifications will also appear on the same platform.
The railway operator requires all bids to be submitted electronically. It will not accept physical submissions after the deadline.
ONCF also stated that it will reject any proposal submitted late or in a format that does not comply with the required standards.
Officials scheduled the bid opening for April 23 in Rabat. The session will take place at ONCF’s training institute, where bidders or their authorized representatives may attend.
The contract forms part of broader preparatory works tied to Morocco’s high-speed rail expansion toward the south.
The project involves building supporting infrastructure to meet the technical demands of high-speed rail operations and to ensure a reliable electrical supply along the future corridor.
