Maha Metro's draft Comprehensive Mobility Plan proposes a 58-km Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) for Nashik, with the corridors identified as having the potential to be developed as a Light Metro network alongside wider upgrades to the city's transport infrastructure.
The draft plan identifies three high-demand transit corridors covering nearly 58 km. These include the Gangapur-Nashik Road railway station route, the Gangapur-Mumbai Naka-Pathardi Phata corridor and the Ozar Airport Road-Mumbai Naka/Pathardi Phata-Ambad corridor.
According to the Times of India report, the first two corridors are expected to attract peak-hour ridership of around 11,000 passengers per hour on each route, making them suitable for a mass transit system.
A senior Maha Metro official was quoted as saying, “The corridors identified under the draft CMP have the potential for a Light Metro variant. A final decision will be taken after stakeholder consultations are completed and the plan is finalised.”
Beyond the metro proposal, the mobility blueprint outlines a broader strategy to prepare Nashik for future population growth until 2056.
