New ‘Railways of Greece’ Company Formed to Oversee Rail Network
A new management company has been established to oversee Greece’s railway network, aiming to enhance safety and operations in line with European standards. The new entity named “Railways of Greece Single-Member S.A.” (Σιδηρόδρομοι Ελλάδος Μονοπρόσωπη Α.Ε.), was created through the merger of the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE), the state-owned rail infrastructure company ERGOSE, and the rolling stock division of GAIOSSE, under Laws 5167/2024 and 5220/2025. In a recent statement, the company said its priorities include strengthening network supervision, improving safety, and evaluating staff in line with European operating and governance frameworks. The board of directors brings together experienced academics and industry professionals: – President – George Ioannou: Professor of Production and Services Management at the University of Athens. Since 2024, he has served as OSE President, advancing the organization’s modernization. – CEO – Christos Palios: Civil engineer and MBA holder, previously CEO of ERGOSE, with expertise in infrastructure projects and public administration. – Vice President – Chrysa (Kristi) Agapitou: Assistant Professor at the University of Piraeus specializing in crisis management and business strategy, with experience in local government and digital transformation. – Deputy CEO – Evangelos Christogiannis: Civil engineer with a PhD in the economic efficiency of railway corridors and 20 years of senior experience at OSE. – Board Member – Athanasios Staveris: Founder of Tools of Tech, specializing in cybersecurity and AI, and former Secretary General of Telecommunications and Posts. – Board Member – Katerina Demerouti: General Manager of Corporate Support at STASY, with expertise in strategic communication, HR, and public transport transformation. – Board Member – Marios Boboulos: Electrical engineer and CEO of PPC Inspectra, with international experience in railway and energy projects. The new company is expected to mark a fresh chapter for Greek railways, combining technical expertise and international best practices to improve safety, efficiency, and public confidence in the network.
