tihad Rail has announced details of the UAE’s first fully integrated national passenger railway network, marking a major step in the country’s transport development. The passenger network will connect 11 cities and regions through a series of strategically located stations, strengthening inter-emirate connectivity and offering a safe, reliable alternative for intercity travel for residents and visitors. Earlier this year, Etihad Rail revealed the first four passenger stations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah. The company has now confirmed additional stations in Al Sila’, Al Dhannah, Al Mirfa, Madinat Zayed, Mezaira’a, Al Faya and Al Dhaid, which will be delivered in phases. Azza AlSuwaidi, Deputy CEO of Etihad Rail Mobility, said the network reflects the UAE leadership’s vision for an integrated transport system that supports economic and social growth. She noted that the passenger service builds on the freight rail operations launched in 2023 and is being delivered in collaboration with national and international partners, supported by advanced technologies and a modern train fleet. The trains will feature a design rooted in Emirati identity, while serving as a long-term investment in the country’s transport infrastructure. The network is also expected to support domestic tourism and promote more sustainable travel options. Passenger trains have been designed to deliver a comfortable travel experience, with ergonomic seating, modern interiors, Wi-Fi connectivity and power outlets at every seat. Services will run on fixed schedules to ensure efficient, congestion-free journeys between cities. Chief Projects Officer Eng. Mohammed Alshehii confirmed that passenger services will launch in 2026. In the first phase, the network will serve key locations including Mohammed Bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi, Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, University City in Sharjah and the Al Hilal area in Fujairah. Each train can carry up to 400 passengers, with ten of the 13 trains already delivered, tested and certified to international safety standards. Stations will be integrated with other transport modes, supporting seamless door-to-door travel. Beyond mobility, the network is expected to support tourism, reduce emissions, and strengthen economic and social links across the Emirates.
