Prasarana Facing Action After LRT Derailment

A special task force has been set up to investigate the LRT derailment near Chan Sow Lin station, while Transport Minister Anthony Loke has ordered “maximum” punitive action against Prasarana Malaysia Bhd following the incident.
The derailment, which occurred on the Ampang–Sri Petaling Line this morning, involved a train that slipped off the track while passing a switch near the station, causing major service disruptions along the route.
Rapid KL confirmed that 25 passengers were onboard at the time of the incident. All were safely evacuated following standard operating procedures and no injuries were reported.
In a statement, Rapid KL said it had verified images of the incident circulating on social media and confirmed repair works were ongoing, with technical teams deployed to assess the cause of the fault.
Alternative train services and free shuttle buses remain in operation to reduce disruption, including shuttle routes between Hang Tuah, Chan Sow Lin, Maluri, Pandan Jaya and Cheras stations, alongside adjusted train turnaround services along affected sections of the line.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke described the derailment as a “very serious incident” and said it would not be treated as a routine disruption due to safety concerns involving passengers and staff.
“I have also directed the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) to take the maximum punitive action against Prasarana Malaysia Bhd over this incident,” he said.
He added that APAD had already opened an investigation paper into the matter, while the Ministry of Transport had established a special task force to determine the cause of the derailment.
Loke also stressed that findings from the probe would be presented to the Cabinet and made public, adding that there would be full accountability at management level if negligence is found.
