President William Ruto has announced plans for a 30-kilometre underground railway linking Nairobi’s densely populated Eastlands area with the Central Business District (CBD) as part of efforts to tackle the capital’s persistent traffic congestion.
The railway will form the first phase of the Nairobi Metropolitan Mass Rapid Transport System (NMRTS) and will have 25 stations.
Ruto said the Nairobi City County Government had granted the necessary approvals for the first phase of the project.
