Stadler has completed the delivery of the final vehicle in a series of 60 RABe 512 double‑deck InterRegio trains to Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). The last unit was handed over on 2 October 2026, marking the end of the production phase for the SBB InterRegio double‑deck fleet. All 60 vehicles were delivered on schedule and have been operating since mid‑2023 across the Zurich region, the Swiss Midlands and Western Switzerland. Since entering service, the fleet has accumulated more than 23 million kilometres in passenger service, a distance equivalent to 30 trips to the moon. Each train is equipped with a propane‑based air‑conditioning system, intended to provide a more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional train cooling solutions.
The on‑time delivery of the full order demonstrates the effectiveness of close collaboration between customer and manufacturer, with both parties focusing on successfully bringing the trains into service. The project has been praised by SBB for its trust and by the project teams for their commitment. The completion of this order also coincides with other industry developments, such as Alstom’s new contract with Metro de Panamá S.A. for long‑term maintenance of the Panama City metro network, LTG Link’s announcement that Stadler’s new Flirt trains will enter service on select routes from 22 October, Alstom’s receipt of an order from Västtrafik for 35 additional Avelia Stream Nordic X80 trains, and BeNEX’s commissioning of Siemens Mobility to deliver 56 regional trains for the Mainfranken regional network. Additionally, Stadler has appointed a new Group CEO, Philipp Brunner, who will take over from Markus Bernsteiner on 1 January 2027.
