The Romanian government has approved a memorandum for negotiating a financing contract of 630 million euros with the European Investment Bank (EIB). This amount will support the national contribution for the project "Brașov-Sighișoara railway line - Co-financing related to EU funds". The loan is part of a broader financing program, which includes contracting loans of up to 4.975 billion euros for strategic infrastructure projects.
The project aims to rehabilitate a railway section of 112.55 km, which will allow train traffic at speeds of up to 160 km/h, thus contributing to the improvement of connectivity at the European level.
The total estimated value of the project is approximately 2.25 billion euros, and the works, started in 2020, are scheduled to be completed in 2029, being managed by the National Railway Company "CFR" - S.A.
