In order to advance the bidding process for the US$1.8 billion Regiotram del Norte commuter train, Colombia's National Planning Department ( DNP ) is seeking to contract comprehensive land studies for the project.
The DNP will accept expressions of interest until September 30 for the comprehensive land study of the railway corridor connecting Bogotá with Zipaquirá. The study must include the legal, technical, economic, and social components necessary for project implementation.
The contract, worth 1.3 billion pesos (US$335,000), will be signed on December 5, begin on the 8th of that month, and must be completed by July 31, 2026, according to the call for proposals published on the public procurement portal Secop II .
The commuter train, which will connect Zipaquirá, Cajicá, and Chía with Bogotá, will be 100% electric and will carry approximately 189,000 passengers daily.
The route will use the Sabana Train rail corridor, currently used for tourist routes. The project will cover 50 km and include direct integration with the first and second lines of the Bogotá metro and with the main lines of the TransMilenio transportation system.
The co-financing agreement with the central government is expected to be signed in October, after which the bidding process should begin.
