Mota-Engil, the Portuguese civil engineering and construction giant, has secured two major contracts worth €1.11 billion with Mexico’s Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT). These contracts will enable the local subsidiary of Mota-Engil to significantly expand its operations in Mexico, contributing to the modernization and growth of the country’s railway infrastructure. Expanding the Querétaro-Irapuato Rail Network The largest of the two contracts, valued at €820 million, involves the design and construction of 70.7km of new tracks for the Querétaro – Irapuato main line. The tracks will cover the section between Apaseo el Grande and Irapuato, a key route in Mexico’s rail network. Mota-Engil will be responsible for both the design and construction of this section, which is scheduled to take 29 months to complete.
