The Ministry of Transport and Communications ( MTC ) participated in the working group on Chancay-Huaral road and rail connectivity, organized by the Congress of the Republic, where it presented the most relevant projects that the transport sector has to improve road connectivity for the population, as well as the vision it has regarding the growth of port development.
Among the projects reviewed are the Serpentín–Pasamayo Bypass, the Chancay–Chancayllo Bypass, the Oyón–Ambo Highway, the Acos–Huayllay Highway, the Lima–Barranca , Lima–Ica and Chancay–Pucallpa Railways, important projects that will benefit thousands of residents.
During the roundtable organized by Congressman Roberto Sánchez, the Ministry of Transportation and Transport (MTC) reported that it is working on a railway development plan that will double the current 1,700-kilometer rail network, which is more than 100 years old, and will transport not only freight but also passengers.
The Lima-Barranca railway project is currently in the development phase, while the Lima-Ica railway has an approved project profile. Finally, the Pucallpa-Chancay Coastal Railway project, which will connect the Amazon with Brazil to Chancay, is expected to have a pre-investment study scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025.
Likewise, it was emphasized that the opening of the Port of Chancay puts us in a good position in the export competitive landscape. Currently, more than 95% of national exports are carried out through ports. The opening of the Port of Chancay, combined with the operation of other Callao ports, such as APM Terminal and Dubai Port, are making the country a port hub, on par with other international ports, making us competitive.
The MTC reinforces its commitment to generating connectivity to ports from the North Pacific, South Pacific, the central part of the country, and the Amazon to the ports of Chancay and Callao, with a greater vision of connectivity and export efficiency. In this regard, the MTC recalled that in 2023, the National Plan for Logistics Services and Infrastructure for Transportation was approved until 2032, establishing 41 logistics corridors, which will allow exports to become increasingly efficient and reduce costs.
