Putrajaya MRT line continues to suffer disruption after cable theft

🗓 26 October 2025

KUALA LUMPUR: The Putrajaya MRT line continues to experience service disruptions following a signal system failure affecting services between Kwasa Damansara and Putrajaya Sentral stations. As a safety measure, trains along the stretch had to be operated manually, resulting in slower speed and longer stops at each station with a frequency between 20 and 30 minutes per train. Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd in a statement today said a free shuttle bus service had been arranged to help passengers continue their journey between the two stations. However, it said that normal train services would be restored as soon as possible. Preliminary investigations revealed that the signal system disruption might have stemmed from cable theft involving communication and signalling systems. The theft is believed to have occurred near Kuchai station, where investigators found a pile of cut cables. Rapid Rail said it was working closely with MRT Corporation and the police to conduct a thorough investigation and curb further cable theft incidents, which recently occurred along the Putrajaya Line. Earlier today, it was reported that the Putrajaya MRT line was disrupted due to ongoing signal system upgrade works. However, later in the day, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) group president and chief executive officer Amir Hamdan said the disruption was suspected to have been caused by the theft of communication and signalling cables. A report was lodged at the Brickfields police station at 12.41pm and the police had begun their probe.
