Train route halted after Lalmonirhat train collision
Two train coaches have overturned and train route halted following a collision between two trains at the BDR Gate area of Lalmonirhat Railway Station on Monday. The incident involved the intercity train 'Lalmoni Express'. As a result of the accident, train services on the Lalmonirhat-Burimari route have been suspended. While there were fears of significant damage due to the accident occurring at a crucial railway crossing in the district town, major loss of life and property was narrowly averted. The incident temporarily halted direct road communication through the BDR Gate towards Puron Bazar. Later, rail authorities, the army, police and locals collaborated to restore normal road traffic. According to witnesses, a local train traveling from Burimari to Parbatipur was entering Lalmonirhat Railway Station. At the same time, the Lalmoni Express train was being maneuvered onto another track in the BDR Gate area. At that moment, the local train forcefully collided with the Lalmoni Express, causing two coaches of the express train to overturn. There were no immediate reports of casualties or injuries from the accident. Lalmonirhat Divisional Railway Manager Abu Hena Mostofa Alam said that the accident might have occurred due to a wrong signal. However, an investigation committee has been formed, and the main cause will be revealed through their inquiry.
